Burns Scalo Signs 20-Year, 132,000 SF Lease with Allegheny County

PITTSBURGH, PA – Burns Scalo Real Estate announced today the signing of a new, 20-year, 132,000 sf lease with Allegheny County at One Smithfield, the home to its Department of Human Services. As part of the new term, the landlord has committed to $5 million in building improvements and renovations.

Increased competition from the private sector, accelerating retirement rates, and a shortage of applicants have greatly impacted the recruiting and retention efforts of local governments in recent years. This deal reflects the County’s response to the changing demands and expectations of today’s workforce.

“We’re entering a new and exciting paradigm. Organizations that focus on their employees first will win the talent war,” said Jim Scalo, CEO, Burns Scalo Real Estate. He added, “Having happier and more empowered workers leads to enhanced productivity.”

Improvements include new turnstiles at both entrances, a new reception desk with a new client welcome area, upgraded restrooms, and an LED lighting upgrade throughout the space. Employees will also enjoy the addition of two new kitchenettes and four new client interview rooms in the office environment.
