NAI Burns Scalo Awarded Brokerage and Property Management Contract for Former Pittsburgh Technical College Campus
NAI Burns Scalo is proud to announce that it has been selected by the bondholders and receiver to provide brokerage and property management services for the former Pittsburgh Technical College campus. The property, now vacant following the institution’s closure in August 2024, presents a significant opportunity for creative redevelopment or adaptive reuse.
Pittsburgh Technical College ceased academic instruction at the end of its Spring quarter on June 27, 2024, and officially closed its doors in August after years of financial challenges. Like many higher education institutions across the country, Pittsburgh Technical College faced declining enrollment, changing perceptions of higher education, and economic pressures exacerbated by the global pandemic. Despite reducing its debt by $10 million and exploring mergers and partnerships, the Board of Trustees concluded that the college could no longer sustain operations.
With the campus now in transition, NAI Burns Scalo has been entrusted to provide brokerage and property management services, a responsibility that aligns with the firm’s expertise in complex property repositioning. Whether through repurposing the existing facilities or undertaking a full-scale redevelopment, NAI Burns Scalo is prepared to employ a strategy that considers market demand, community needs, and the long-term potential of the site.
“We are honored to be chosen to lead this effort,” said Brian Walker, President of NAI Burns Scalo. “The Pittsburgh Technical College campus holds a unique place in the region’s history, and this is a tremendous opportunity to reimagine its future. Our goal is to leverage the full potential of the property and create maximum value, reintroducing the property as a sustainable and impactful addition to the community”.
The closure of Pittsburgh Technical College reflects broader trends impacting the higher education sector, but it also offers a rare opportunity to reimagine the site in alignment with the region’s evolving needs. NAI Burns Scalo’s forward-thinking approach and deep market knowledge will be critical in positioning the property for its next chapter, whether as another educational facility, mixed-use or industrial development, commercial hub, or another innovative concept.
