Profiles of the Power 100 were written by reporters and other members of the Business Times editorial staff.

The Power 100 is not a ranking, but rather a guide that aims to reflect who are the most influential people at this moment in time. The editorial staff of the Business Times selected those who made the list, with input from the community at large. It does not include elected officials and is limited to those who currently reside in the Pittsburgh metro area.

Burns Scalo Real Estate Services

Jim Scalo has enough development going on that he’s bound to be successful despite the most challenging office market conditions in decades. His most successful project right now: The Piazza in South Fayette, which is fully leased with new restaurants in a submarket half-starved for new places to eat. His Burns Scalo Real Estate Services also has one major building with a couple modest-sized leases inked in the Strip District, another building overlooking the Monongahela about half leased in South Oakland, and a major new office park on the way in Moon Township known as Diamond Ridge. As the president and CEO of Burns Scalo Real Estate Services, Scalo is pursuing all of these projects at a time when just about everybody else is watching and waiting during a scary time in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, and he has been a vocal advocate for people returning to the office to work and getting back into office buildings.
